The Louisiana Court of Appeal, First Circuit is located in the capitol city of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. The First Circuit is a state appellate court that has plenary jurisdiction to review a wide variety of state law matters, including arbitration, civil rights, contracts, criminal, family, probate, personal injury, and various administrative proceedings.
As a court of review, the First Circuit does not receive evidence outside of what was introduced in the underlying trial court proceedings nor does the court hear testimony in connection with matters before the court. Rather, if timely requested, a panel of judges will hear arguments by or on behalf of a party regarding the matter for which review is sought. Arguments are generally open to the public.
